Workstation Ergonomics
It is important that individuals understand the risks of sitting long hours at a computer workstation. A workstation assessment will provide the principals of a correct set up, identify mechanisms of injury, advice on breaks and if required on ergonomic equipment. Individual summary reports are provided. It is worth noting that often expensive ergonomic equipment is not required and work station related pain can be treated by identifying the cause, making changes, correcting posture and sometimes combining with osteopathic or other physical treatment and advice.
This is something we feel strongly about and is vital in our experience, it also goes a big step beyond what a basic assessment can do. It is a fact that some people will need more than just a workstation assessment, they will need a body and posture assessment to. As we are all osteopaths that perform these assessments we are highly qualified to perform this too. The most expensive chairs, tables and ergonomic gadgets could be in place, costing literally thousands of pounds but if that person has bad posture they can still sit slouched in their expensive chair and under perform because of pain.
What The Perrymount assessors will do is correct the workstation but also look at standing and sitting posture and offer advice and even customised stretching plans to improve the posture. We also run back care, Pilates and core stability workshops to demonstrate to larger numbers of employees how to protect themselves from injury. This can be done on-site if the space is available.
Jacqui, one of our Osteopaths is trained in Advanced Ergonomics and all three of our osteopaths have the full four year training and are registered with the General Osteopathic Council.
