In this Blog we cover a fascinating benefit of osteopathic spinal treatment. Neurological health, like many diseases is become more and more prevalent and therefore naturally people are researching the topic to either help themselves or prevent having issues in the future.

Because a number of patients had mentioned to me that they would like to look after therefore nervous system health I have done some research and found some scientific benefits which I written about below. I can definitely add to this my experience also shows osteopathy has a great impact on spine and therefore nerve health.

The studies below speak of "spinal manipulation". I'd like to highlight to you that our osteopaths would not see this as just "clicking", it could also involve soft tissue massage, mobilisation, harmonic rocking techniques and others  that are very gentle.

On top of this massage would have simialr benefits too as it works on the muscles aroudn the spine and actually every muscle has afeedback to the nervous system. As you know if you have had a massage it is very relaxing and calming on the nervous system!

Here are some of the potential benefits of spinal manipulation on neurological health:
1. Pain Reduction:

Chronic pain can be a significant burden on the nervous system, leading to changes in the way the brain processes pain signals. Spinal manipulation may help to reduce pain by restoring proper joint function and reducing inflammation around nerve roots. This can help to reduce the burden on the nervous system and improve overall neurological function.

2. Increased Blood Flow:

Spinal manipulation has been shown to increase blood flow to the brain, which can improve the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to brain cells. This may help to protect against neurological conditions such as stroke and dementia.

3. Improved Range of Motion:

Restricted movement in the spine can lead to compression of nerves and other structures, which can lead to neurological symptoms such as numbness, tingling, and weakness. Spinal manipulation can help to restore proper joint mobility, which can reduce the pressure on nerves and improve neurological function.

4. Improved Balance and Coordination:

The spine plays an important role in maintaining balance and coordination, and dysfunction in the spine can lead to problems with these functions. Spinal manipulation can help to improve spinal alignment and reduce muscle tension, which can improve balance and coordination.

5. Enhanced Immune Function:

The nervous system plays an important role in regulating the immune system, and dysfunction in the nervous system can lead to immune system dysfunction. Spinal manipulation may help to improve immune function by reducing stress on the nervous system and improving overall neurological function.

In conclusion, spinal manipulation may provide a variety of benefits for neurological health, including pain reduction, increased blood flow, improved range of motion, enhanced balance and coordination, and improved immune function.

A particular favourite of mine is helping people with their balance through gentle neck treatments.

I hope this opens your mind to osteopathic treatment being a valuable tool for promoting neurological health and improving overall quality of life.
