Good morning!,

I hope you had a fantastic weekend. In this newsletter I have written about our new laser machine helping injuries that we previously couldn't have even touched with a fantastic patient recovery story.

We have had our Laser device for around a year now and it has been a massive hit with clients. This device sets us apart from other clinics. Our osteopaths have been combining its use with our regular treatments and it has opened up possibilities of helping new injuries that we couldn’t previously treat, particularly those which are so painful we couldn’t touch them.

Because the laser is just light we can “shine” it on just about any injury and it is painless.

For example, we have used it over rib fractures, recent surgical wounds, skin injuries not healing well and very acute and painful injuries. We are even using the laser over the lungs to help chronic pulmonary fibrosis.

We have now opened up treatment slots that are just for laser treatments. These are 15 minute slots at £30 each. Laser research typical shows benefits with 6 - 10 treatments so we have a 6 session laser package for £180.

You must still have an initial consultation with an osteopath and we must take a full case history and understand about you and the injury you are in for. This is paid for separately and is not included in package price above.

The laser treatments used in this way are for acute injuries that osteopathy is not needed initially for and our osteopaths will assess this. Many times osteopathy is still required as we want to look at the whole body and help correct mechanical issues that are CAUSING the injury, not just giving a symptom fix like a pain killer would.

I have here a really nice example of the laser being used in isolation and then our shockwave machine and then combining with massage and osteopathy.

This patient had a complete tear of his achilles tendon which he had surgical re-attached. He was in a boot and on crutches. However, very soon after the surgery we were able to remove the boot and use the laser over the repaired surgical area. Something we did not previously have the ability to do.

His surgeon was consulted and very happy with us helping in this way. In fact he consulted a number of surgeons he knew and they recommended laser therapy as the best he could use and he knew we had this at The Perrymount.

You can see the treatment below. Look at the scar, it's amazing and hardly visible!

As we couldn’t use osteopathy or massage on the injury the shorter laser treatments to speed healing and get better circulation into the area were incredible in this situation.

As the healing progressed I started to use deep tissue massage techniques on the calf muscle to ease tightness and also to treat the patients spine to keep good alignment from using the crutches. His neck was also getting achey so treatment even moved here too. All due to his achilles surgery. A lovely example of how osteopathy can target the symptomatic area of pain but also attend to the whole body.

As the surgical area completely healed it became very tight with scar tissue. And now the tightness became the main issue. Our shockwave machine is perfect for this chronic tendon tightness so now was the time to swap the laser treatment for shockwave therapy. Shockwave sends focused sound waves deep into the tissue to stimulate chronic, tight injuries to soften. It’s ideal for long term tendon injuries like plantar fasciitis and tennis and golfers elbow.

This is the shockwave below.

I used the shockwave on the achilles tendon to break the scar tissue down and get full movement along with osteopathy to help any compensation occurring in the spine. The patient was also doing a lot of rehab exercises at home on top of this to get excellent results post surgery. A gentle game of golf is now imminent in the near future for this patient which he is thrilled about.

You can see that because we have these high tech healing devices at The Perrymount we are able to successfully combine them with osteopathy to bring an amazing holistic treatment to speed healing even in the most extreme cases.

If you have any questions about injuries you have and whether we are able to help you then please do reply to this newsletter and I can answer and also ask any of the other professionals in the clinic for their experiences.

Have an amazing week
